BSC Cheerleading FAQs
Q: When does the first practice begin?
A: August 11, 2008.
Q: What are the practice schedules?
A: The first three weeks of practice are Monday (Opening night is on a Monday) through Thursday. Practices begin at 6:00 P.M. and end at 8:00 P.M. All Blue teams practice at Washington Henry Elementary School and all Silver teams practice at Courthouse Park. Note that extreme heat may cause practices to start later in the evening. Once school starts, practice will be either on Tuesday or Thursday night(s), at each squad coach’s discretion, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. There may be certain occasions, such as Homecoming, where the squads will have an additional practice during the school week.
Q: What should be worn to practice?
A: You should wear cheering shorts or shorts with NO pockets, a t-shirt (no tank tops),
and socks with tennis shoes. No slip on shoes. NO JEWELRY OF ANY KIND! Hair should also be pulled up into a pony tail or out of the face if hair is not long enough for a pony tail.
Q: If it rains, will there be practice and/or games?
A: Football is an outdoor sport and we do at times practice in “light” rain. We will never practice nor play games if there is a presence of lightning. The Blue Star web site will be updated by 5:00 P.M. each day advising of any practice cancellation due to inclement weather. In addition, your Directors will know about practice cancellations at approximately 5:00 P.M. if inclement weather is expected.
Metro cancels games due to inclement weather. Metro will not cancel a game until approximately 7:30 A.M. on game days.
Q: What items do I have to purchase?
A: Blue Star provides all items EXCEPT: warm-ups, leggings, and shoes. These items are purchased by each cheerleader. In addition, any piece of the uniform (see question above) that needs to be replaced due to damage, lost, etc. will be the financial responsibility of the cheerleader.
Q: What cheering accessories does Blue Star provide?
A: Blue Star provides the uniform (vest and skirt), long-sleeved crop top, lollies, socks, hairbow, pom poms, and a monogrammed bag.
Q: How can I determine the football schedules?
A: Your team director and coach will have the schedules. In addition, the football schedules will be posted on the Blue Star web site.
Q: Do the JV teams play the same schedules as the Varsity teams?
A: Metro will determine the JV schedules approximately the last week of August. These schedules are dependent on the number of other Associations that will field JV teams. In most cases, the JV teams will play at the same location as the varsity teams, but there is no guarantee that this will happen.
Q: How will I know what part of my uniform to wear to the games?
A: Your individual coaches will announce at the end of practices on Thursday what needs to be worn to the game the following Saturday. Each cheerleader is responsible for having ALL uniform and accessory pieces with her at the EVERY game. Weather is fickle so we are always prepared for anything. Metro requires all cheerleaders attire to be uniform; therefore, if you are missing a piece of your uniform you cannot cheer.
