Q: When does the first practice begin?

A: August 11th, 2008

Q: What are the practice schedules?

A: The first three weeks of practice are Monday

(Opening night is on a Monday) through Friday.

Practices begin at 6:00 P.M. and end at 8:00 P.M.

Note that extreme heat may cause practices to

start later in the evening.

Q: What should be worn to practice?

A: Your coaches will advise you of practice attire during the first week of practice. For at least the first two nights of practice, you should wear something comfortable, like shorts, shirt, socks, and comfortable shoes.

Q: If it rains, will there be practice and/or games?

A: Football is an outdoor sport and we do at times practice in “light” rain.  We will never practice nor play games if there is a presence of lightning. Please contact your team director for information and refer to the weather hotlines posted on this site for practice and game cancellations.  Please note that Metro cancels games due to inclement weather.  Metro will not cancel a game until approximately 7:30 A.M. on game days.

Q: Do I have to purchase football shoes?

A: No, football, baseball and soccer shoes may be worn.  However, you can not wear any shoe that has metal cleats.

Q: What football equipment does Blue Star provide?

A: Blue Star supplies all pads, practice pants, practice jerseys, game pants, game jerseys, a mouthpiece, and game socks. Blue Star does not supply football helmets and shoulder pads.

Q: Where can I purchase a football helmet or shoulder pads?

A: There are several vendors in the Richmond Metropolitan area that supply football equipment. We do not recommend a vendor. However, during the first night of practice, a vendor will be at the practice and will be fitting football players for helmets and shoulder pads.

Q: How can I determine the football schedules?

A: Your team director and coach will have the schedules. In addition, the football schedules will be posted on the Blue Star web site.

Q: Do the JV teams play the same schedules as the Varsity teams?

A: Metro will determine the JV schedules approximately the last week of August. These schedules are dependent on the number of other Associations that will field JV teams.  In most cases, the JV teams will play at the same location as the varsity teams, but there is no guarantee that this will happen.

Q: What is the minimum play rule?

A: Metro rules state that each player shall play a minimum of four plays per game not including kickoff and receiving teams. Blue Star rules state that during the regular season, each player shall play a minimum of two plays per half not including kickoff and receiving teams.

Q: What happens if a game ends in a tie?

A: No games shall end in a tie, and any games with a tie score at the end of regulation shall proceed into overtime: provided that regular season games shall not go beyond three overtime periods. All playoff games will be played until a winner is determined, with no limit on overtime periods.

Q: How are extra points counted?

A: The ball is placed on the two yard line for extra point attempts and shall count as two points for a pass and one point for a run. Teams can kick if there are field goals at the field.

Q: Are Flag rules different?

A: Yes, the Flag rules are different in some areas.  Your team director and coach can explain the Flag rules.
